- Lot Description
A Spanish cup-hilt or 'La Taza' style rapier, which has been intricately decorated with pierced and engraved patterning in foliate and geometric designs throughout. The forte of the blade is particularly striking, triple fullersalternating with triple fullers, pierced sections and engraved sides. The cup-shaped guard with 4 portraits of kings or lordly figures and quillons ending in 8-petaled florets. The grip is wrapped in wire and ends in a round pommel. The elements of construction appear to be consistent with rapier design of the mid to late 1600s, the screw heads on the guard being hand-crafted and slightly irregular, as was the norm at the time.

Condition
Very good for its age, with expected pitting throughout and some small spots of loss on the hilt. All parts tight.
