- Lot Description
Rectangular hinged box with softly rounded corners, the exterior decorated overall in fine niello work on a deep blue-black ground with dense geometric diaper patterning. The lid centered by an oval reserve engraved with a crowned interlaced monogram, likely "K W A", set within a belt-and-buckle motif. The sides are similarly decorated, the base plain. Hinged lid opening to a gilt interior. The interior stamped with the maker’s mark "M&S", consistent in form and placement with the mark used by Maxfield & Sons of Sheffield in the late 19th century.

Condition
Overall wear consistent with age and use. Light surface scratching and minor dents, with some softening to the niello decoration in areas. Gilt interior showing wear and oxidation. Hinge intact and functional, lid closing properly.
