A gentleman’s walking cane comprising a finely turned dark hardwood shaft fitted with an elegant twisted crook handle worked in silver. The handle is formed as a continuous spiral twist with gently faceted ridges, terminating in a squared tip and joined to the shaft with a double-collared silver ferrule. The sculptural modeling of the grip reflects late Victorian to early Edwardian taste for restrained yet tactile ornament, combining functionality with understated luxury. The shaft tapers subtly toward a metal-mounted tip, likely brass or steel, designed for durability in daily use. The overall proportions and refined workmanship suggest manufacture for an upper-middle-class or aristocratic owner, intended as both a practical walking aid and a fashionable accessory.
L: 37 5/8 in., (95.6 cm.)
Overall very good condition. Light surface wear and small handling marks to the silver are consistent with age and use. The shaft shows slight surface wear but remains straight and sound. Tip mount intact.
