This is a Soviet-era porcelain figure of ballerina Tamara Karsavina as the Firebird (Жар-Птица / Zhar-Ptitsa) in Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird, created by artist R. Ivanov in 1922. Depicting ballerina Tamara Karsavina in a vibrant costume inspired by Leon Bakst’s design for Stravinsky’s Firebird, her body arched and poised as if mid-dance, lavishly painted in vivid polychrome enamels and gold. Underside inscribed in Russian: "Т. КарÑавина в роли Жар-Птицы в балете И. СтравинÑкого 'Жар-Птица'. Ðвтор Ð . Иванов." ("T. Karsavina in the role of the Firebird in the ballet by I. Stravinsky 'The Firebird'. Author R. Ivanov.") Numbered 50/21; factory mark of hammer and sickle with date 1922.H: 8 5/8 in., (22 cm.)Excellent overall, with no visible chips or restorations.
