- Lot Description
A rectangular silver cigarette case, the cover engraved with a detailed architectural view of the National Opera House in Riga (NacionÄlÄ Opera), Latvia. The hinged case is fitted with a cabochon carnelian thumbpiece in a gilt mount. The interior is gilded and fitted with original elastic bands. Maker’s mark: RP (Cyrillic letters) and 875 silver standard (875/1000), USSR post-1950 Soviet silver hallmark. Soviet silver cigarette cases of this period often commemorated architectural landmarks, military achievements, or national symbols, making them both functional and collectible souvenirs. Weight: 5.8 oz., (166 g.)4 1/4 x 3 3/8 in., (10.8 x 8.7 cm.)Very good with expected signs of wear and age.
