- Lot Description
A very large hunting powder flask made from the scapula (shoulder bone) of a stag, decorated with intricately engraved hunting scenes, one side with three hounds confronting a boar within a foliate border, the other side with two hounds chasing a stag through the brush. Around the edge of the flask is affixed a bright red fringe over floral-patterned red fabric. Hanging from two metal rings is a lanyard of blue and yellow rope for hanging, also hung with a screw. Capped with a lathe-turned spherical stopper.
Continental Europe, probably Germany, 19th century.
L: 22 in., (56 cm.)
Condition
Very good condition for age, with minor scratching to surface in places, some small chips. Some minor wear to fabric in places consistent with age.
