Of typical Spanish form, the cane housing a slender, tapering steel blade of triangular section, double-edged toward the tip, etched and fire-gilt with scrolling ornament against a blued ground in the upper portion. The blade retaining visible traces of original blue and gilt decoration. Hilt formed as a rounded wooden handle with domed pommel, set above a brass collar engraved with simple decorative bands. Contained within its original wooden shaft terminating in a metal ferrule.
The overall construction corresponds to Spanish examples often referred to as "estoque canes," produced in the 19th century, frequently associated with Toledo workmanship. The blade of stiff triangular section suggests use as a thrusting weapon rather than cutting arm, characteristic of civilian defensive sword canes of the period.
L: 34 1/2 in., (87.7 cm.)
Blade showing light oxidation, wear to the blue and gilt decoration. Surface age and patina to wooden handle and shaft consistent with period use. Mechanism functional. The blade fits securely within shaft. No visible later alterations.
