Of rectangular sarcophagus form, veneered overall in richly figured mahogany arranged in bold radial and cross-banded panels, the lid centered with a raised rectangular reserve. The front fitted with a diamond-shaped escutcheon, originally for a key lock. The interior reveals a traditional compartmentalized arrangement with two lidded tea divisions flanking a central recess fitted with a cut-glass mixing bowl, the lid interior lined in pleated red velvet and centered by a gilt metal rosette boss. The crisp geometry of the veneer layout and restrained ornament reflect the refined taste of Regency-period English domestic wares, where tea caddies functioned both as practical storage and prominent decorative objects within the drawing room. The inclusion of the original glass bowl further enhances the completeness and desirability of the piece.
7 6/8 x 14 x 7 3/8 in., (19.7 x 35.4 x 19 cm.)
Good overall condition. Veneers are intact with scattered surface wear, light scratches, and small edge losses consistent with age and use. Interior velvet with fading and minor wear. Glass bowl intact with light residue and minor surface marks. Lock present; the key is missing.
