An M1917 American trench knife produced by the firm of Landers, Frary & Clark of New Britain, Connecticut for use in World War 1. The blade is of a slender triangular shape, developed for easy penetration and devastating wounds. The hilt is composed of two parts, the wooden grip which has been shaped with multiple raised sections for easier indexing and a stronger hold, and the steel knucklebow with pyramidal protrusions to be used similarly to brass knuckles. The blade is marked on the guard 'U.S. / L. F. & C. / 1917'.
United States, 1917.
L: 14 1/4 in., (36.2 cm.)
Very good for its age, with wood well preserved and only minor pitting to blade and knucklebow. Blackened finish well preserved.
