- Lot Description
A refined rectangular jewelry or trinket casket featuring etched glass panels set in an ornate gilt metal (ormolu) frame. Rectangular form raised on small, scrolled feet, with twisted rope-like edging along the lower perimeter. The beveled glass lid and side panels are beautifully etched with delicate floral and foliate motifs, including scrolling vines, flowers, and leaves, creating a soft, frosted effect against the clear glass. The corners of the gilt frame are adorned with applied floral mounts, adding to its decorative richness. This casket reflects the Belle Époque taste for luxurious yet delicate personal objects. Such caskets were used to store jewelry, keepsakes, or small personal treasures on a lady’s dressing table.12 5/8 x 7 1/4 x 5 1/2 in., (32.1 x 18.4 x 14 cm.)The gilt finish shows minimal wear, darkening, and surface tarnish, particularly along the top rim, corners, and decorative mounts. Small scratches and minor oxidation spots are present, common for ormolu pieces of this age. No major dents, breaks, or missing mounts are visible. Hinges are intact. The etched glass panels, including the beveled top, are free of cracks or large chips. The etched decoration remains visible and well-preserved.
