- Lot Description
An exquisitely gilt and decorated cased presentation Lefaucheux Model 1854 pinfire revolver, serial number 2, given in 1862 to Spanish Military General José Nicolás Francisco Pablo Lémery-Ney e Ibarrola-González, Marquess of Baroja, who was the 82nd Governor-General of the Philippines, 109th Governor of Puerto Rico, and Deputy and Senator of Baleares.
The pistol is decorated across every inch of its metal surfaces with highly detailed chased scrollwork against a brightly gilt stippled ground, with two chased birds on either side of the receiver. This brilliant chasing, engraving, and goldwork was composed in the Spanish city of Eibar by a member of the renowned Alberdi family of gunsmiths, the city and family both being famous for the quality of their guns and their decoration. The top of the receiver is signed 'Alberdi en Eibar'.
The grip scales are of bone which has been delicately carved with intricate foliate scrollwork and grotesque forces of horned cats or demons. The top of the barrel is engraved with presentation text within a ribbon reading 'EXCMo Sr Tnie Gal Dn Jose Lemery Manila Ao 1862'.
The case is of black wood with brass inlaid decoration, engraved with Lemery's initials 'JL' to the top. The interior is lined with dark green velvet and contains the pistol, cleaning rod, bone-handled screwdriver, screw-top brass grease container, three lidded compartments, and the key to the lock.

Condition
Pistol in excellent condition, gold bright, mechanisms all function perfectly. Case in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of age to velvet, lock mechanism fully functional, light scratching, all items present.
