A 19th-century Indian "phoolino" (or phooliyan) spear tip, a rare and distinctive variant of ceremonial or decorative spears from the Indian subcontinent, North India, 19th century.
Phooliyan (फूलियाà¤) or "Phoolino", derived from the Hindi word phool (flower), referring to the floral or lobed cutouts seen in the base of the blade. The speartip is made of forged iron. The blade is tapered, leaf-shaped. Wide near the base, with pierced lobes an aesthetic and symbolic feature. Edges are unsharpened, suggesting non-combat or ceremonial use. Socket is ringed and flanged for shaft mounting. Turned decoration with evidence of forge marks. The socket ends in a sharp conical tang for wood insertion.
L: 12 in., (30.5 cm.)
Good condition for age, with some light pitting across the surface.
