- Lot Description
A French Empire gilt bronze figural sculpture, circa early 19th century, depicting a classical maiden standing at a dressing table with a mirror. The figure, draped in Greco-Roman attire, is shown delicately adjusting her reflection in an oval mirror supported on a neoclassical table with turned legs, all mounted on a rectangular pink marble base. The gilt bronze surface is richly detailed, with fine drapery folds, floral garlands, and decorative motifs characteristic of Empire style.H: 8 in., (20.3 cm.)Gilt surface retains much of its original finish but shows areas of rubbing and wear, especially on protruding points such as the maiden’s arms, head, and the table edges. Minor surface oxidation and darkening in recessed areas, typical for age. The mirror glass is original, showing signs of age such as clouding, small black spots, and minor scratches, but remains intact. The pink marble base is in good condition with some expected minor chips and edge wear, especially at corners. No visible repairs or damage.
