A sculpture of Venus executed in clay, signed and dated 1917. Provenance: Exhibited: Brooklyn Museum, New York, 1923 (catalog #301). Christie's East: Wednesday, June 10, 1992, Lot # 00358: American Paintings and Sculpture. This life-sized, standing Venus sculpture exhibits a refined yet deliberately unfinished modeling typical of academic or studio works by early 20th-century sculptors. The figure is rendered in a contrapposto stance with arms behind the back and legs slightly crossed, the surface showing expressive tool marks and naturalistic attention to anatomical proportion and weight distribution. The raw texture and pose strongly reflect classical ideals filtered through a modern lens, aligning with Derujinsky’s studies of the nude form.H: 13 1/4 in., (33.6 cm.)Very good overall.
