This intimate and expressive terracotta bust by Gleb W. Derujinsky portrays his friend and fellow sculptor Malvina Hoffman (1885–1966), one of the most celebrated female sculptors of the 20th century. Executed in 1920, the portrait captures Hoffman with finely articulated features and elegantly styled hair, wearing a draped garment suggestive of classical refinement. The work reflects Derujinsky's mastery of psychological portraiture and his deep respect for Hoffman as an artist and colleague. Modeled in warm red clay, the bust exhibits a painterly, tactile surface—especially in the hair and garment—while retaining precise control in the facial features. This piece may have been intended as a study or as a personal tribute, reflecting their shared academic training and mutual influence within the American sculpture community. Signed: G.
