A 19th-century French gilt bronze figural group, possibly part of a mantel clock garniture or a standalone ormolu sculpture, typical of the Empire or early Romantic period (circa 1820–1840).
The group consists of a young nobleman or troubadour (wearing a feathered hat, short tunic, and cape) gesturing toward a lady in Renaissance-style dress (wearing a veil and pearls, holding a book in her hand).
These types of figures were popular in the French Empire and the Romantic decorative arts, often produced in Paris workshops, such as those of Denière, Thomire, or lesser-known ateliers that produced luxury objects for the bourgeois market.H: 10 1/2 in., (26.5 cm.)
Condition
