MID-ATLANTIC DECORATED STONEWARE PITCHER, salt-glazed, "1 1/2" gallon capacity mark, ovoid body with incised shoulder ring, cylindrical neck with an incised ring below the rounded rim, slightly flared foot, and strap handle. Bold brushed cobalt flower basket decoration below spout, neck with vertical feathers flanking the spout, dots covering the spout, and a dropped feather off each side of rim, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Probably Baltimore. Circa 1850-1870. 12" H, 5 3/4" D rim. Provenance: The collection of Ronnie and Neal Kite of Esmont, VA. Catalogue Note: A very unusual and dramatic decoration.
Undamaged except for a few minor chips to foot and a light glaze flake near basket.
