NORTHEASTERN UNITED STATES DECORATED STONEWARE CHURN, salt-glazed, approximately four-gallon capacity, semi-ovoid form with incised neck ring, applied arched handles, and galleried rim with inner ledge, Albany-slip glazed interior. Slip-trailed cobalt scrolling foliate decoration on front. Albany-slip glazed guide lid and wooden dasher appear to be original. Probably E. Norton & Co., Bennington, Vermont or Haxstun & Co. Fort Edward, New York. Circa 1870. 17" H rim, 9" D. Provenance: Property of a Virginia private collector.
