SIGNED VIRGINIA FEDERAL WALNUT SERVING / TEA TABLE, the one-board rectangular top with canted corners over a plain beaded apron, raised on fine square-tapered legs. Faintly signed in chalk " John Myers / $" to underside of top. Excellent old surface with rich, dark color. Probably Jefferson Co., VA (now WV) or Loudoun Co., VA. Early 19th century. 28 3/4" H, 27 1/8" x 20" top. Provenance: From a private Loudoun Co., VA collection. Catalogue Note: MESDA's Craftsman Database records a John Myers, carpenter, in Jefferson Co., VA working c. 1803-1818. There is also a John Myers, cabinetmaker, in nearby Loudoun Co., VA, working c. 1801-1809. Either of these John Myers may well be the craftsman responsible for the creation of the present lot.
