SOUTHERN TOOLED LEATHER KEY BASKET, rectangular form made from one piece of leather folded and stitched at corners, original strap handle with forked terminals joined below rim with copper rivets, each side with incised geometric decoration and three brass buttons, each end with incised X and brass-framed glass ornament with red paint under the glass. Original dry surface. Second half 19th century. 3 1/4" H rim, 3 1/2" x 8 1/2". Provenance: Property of a Maryland private collector.
Excellent condition with no breaks or repairs, handle with some expected surface degradation, some light wear to corners.
