SOUTHERN TOOLED TWO-TONE LEATHER KEY OR SEWING BASKET WITH COVER, elongated oval form with flanged rim having an inner ledge for the cover, original high arching rolled handle, stitched leather bottom, each side with elaborate stitched elongated leaf decoration, additional stitched linear decoration to cover, rim, and foot. Interior with cloth/light canvas lining. Original dry surface. Mid 19th century. 4 3/4" H rim, 6 3/4" x 12 1/4". Fair as-found condition, basket handle detached, cover lacking handle, losses to leather on rim and some around foot, bottom with staining and a 4 1/2" separation at stitching, interior with losses to lining.
