VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, each cylindrical form with beaded shoulder and rounded rim, Albany-slip glazed interiors. One stenciled in cobalt for E. J. Miller & Son, and the other E. J. Miller & Co., both Alexandria, VA, with brushed cobalt stripes above and below. Circa 1885. 9 3/4" H, 6" D rim. Provenance: The collection of Ronnie and Neal Kite of Esmont, VA.
Undamaged, one with light overall wear, other with wear causing the loss of about half of the cobalt lettering.
