Ca. 1880 - Large porcelain knob modeled in a simple, elongated Milord shape, decorated in bright colors against a black background to resemble cloisonné enamel. The broader section of the knob displays an array of blossoms in diverse hues, each featuring elongated stems and a consistent backdrop of verdant foliage. An integral turquoise collar adorned with scaled frames accentuates the lower section, while a circular red shield embellished with radiating golden scales crowns the top. The knob comes with a yellow metal collar on a naturally knobby blackthorn shaft freed from its bark and distinguished by superb hues. It seems that this unique cane may have been commissioned by someone who truly cherished their collection. They sought a cloisonné cane but were limited by their access to only a porcelain painter! The resulting piece is genuinely one of a kind, showcasing a blend of artistry and craftsmanship that sets it apart from the traditional. Its intricate details and unique aesthetic make it not just a functional item but also a collectible work of art. This beautiful piece survived in as good condition as you can ask for and, given its distinctive nature, deserves to be celebrated among the rarest collectibles in this field. H. 3 ¼” x 1 ¼”, O.L. 37 ½”
