Taking five years to craft from 1950-1955 this toy box is a true labour of love and completely unique.
Depicting scenes of an idyllic "boys own" childhood of playing football, cycling, beachcombing and fighting it tells story of innocence and freedom.
The central carvings are flanked by two guardian angels that perch on table clefs and lions feet, below a scrolled crest is emblazoned with the initial R and a protective tigers head sits neatly underneath.
Carved into the border of the lid are silhouettes of iconic locomotives including "The Flying Scotsman" and "The Mallard"
Made by hand by a father for his son, an inscription underneath reads
"To my beloved son Richard, who is depicted in all the groups (aged 6) and on the plaque (aged 4 months & 18 months) J.S Cook 1950-1955.

Condition: Very good condition, with two minor loses to carvings.
