Engraving, 1960Numbered 6/10, hand signed by the artist lower left, inscribed “For Gertrude Perrin” lower right, and dated 1960. The composition exemplifies Childs’s early experiments with abstract forms and symbolic structures, balancing geometry with expressive engraving techniques.
Dimensions: 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (plate); 22 1/4 x 22 1/4 in. (framed)

Bernard Childs (1910–1985) was an American painter and printmaker recognized for his pioneering use of engraving tools in experimental printmaking. After studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Childs moved to Paris in the 1950s, where he became part of a circle of avant-garde artists and developed his distinct approach to abstract printmaking. His works often merge geometric structures with organic forms, reflecting influences from Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Constructivism. Today, Childs’s prints and paintings are represented in major public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York.Have a similar item to sell?
