Erte (born Romain de Tirtoff, 1892–1990) was a Russian-born French artist and designer recognized as one of the foremost figures of the Art Deco movement. Gaining early acclaim through his fashion illustrations for Harper’s Bazaar in the 1910s, he went on to design costumes, stage sets, and decorative works that defined the era’s aesthetic of glamour and sophistication. Erte’s oeuvre spans painting, sculpture, prints, and jewelry, all marked by his stylized elegance and theatrical sensibility.
