Early 20th Century Louis XIV Style Malachite Coffee Table
An elegant Louis XIV style coffee table, early 20th century, featuring a circular malachite top supported on giltwood legs carved in the baroque manner with scrolling ornamentation. The richly veined malachite surface is characteristic of the opulent materials favored in 17th- and 18th-century decorative arts, here reinterpreted in a revivalist context.
Dimensions: 27 in. diameter x 18 1/2 in. high
Condition: Fair; one leg requires repair/reinforcement, surface wear consistent with age and use.
Context
Louis XIV style furnishings, even when produced in later revival periods, embody the grandeur and theatricality of the French Baroque.
