Haitian Baron Samedi Sequin Vodou Flag
A traditional sequin-embroidered Vodou flag (drapo Vodou) depicting Baron Samedi, one of the most powerful loa of Haitian Vodou. Measuring approximately 18 x 18 in., the design features a prominent cross above a skull and crossbones, embroidered under the word “BARON,” with an additional partially legible phrase below. Worked in sequins and beads, the flag exemplifies the dazzling artistry and ritual significance of ceremonial textiles used to honor the spirits and invite their presence during Vodou ceremonies.

Baron Samedi is the loa of death and guardian of cemeteries, often associated with the crossroads between the living and the spirit worlds. His veve, or ritual symbol, typically incorporates a cross, which is traditionally placed on the grave of the first man buried in a cemetery dedicated to him.
