Artist Bio
Jean Jansem (1920–2013) was a French-Armenian painter known for his poignant depictions of figures, landscapes, and still lifes, often infused with a sense of melancholy and lyricism. Born Hovhannes Semerdjian in Bursa, Turkey, he moved to France as a child and studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Jansem’s work was shaped by both his Armenian heritage and European modernist traditions, resulting in a unique style marked by expressive line and muted color harmonies. Exhibited internationally, including at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and numerous galleries worldwide, Jansem’s paintings are held in prominent private and public collections, affirming his reputation as a significant 20th-century European artist.
