Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was one of the most influential modernists of the 20th century, renowned for his poetic, dreamlike compositions that blended elements of his Russian-Jewish heritage, folklore, and modernist experimentation. After moving to Paris in 1910, he became associated with the avant-garde, drawing inspiration from Cubism and Fauvism while retaining his highly personal, narrative style. Over his long career, Chagall worked across painting, printmaking, stained glass, and stage design, creating works that continue to captivate for their vivid color, spirituality, and celebration of human imagination.
