A Rare Victorian Sterling Silver Salver
Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & MortimerA monumental Victorian sterling silver salver by John Samuel Hunt, with marks for Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer, London. Of impressive scale at 24 in. diameter and raised on four bracket feet, the salver is richly ornamented in repoussé and chasing, exemplifying the grandeur of mid-19th-century English silver. The underside bears both the individual maker’s mark for John Samuel Hunt and the retailer’s mark for Hunt & Roskell, successors to the famed Regency silversmith Paul Storr.
Dimensions: 2 x 24 in. diameter
Weight: approx. 139.5 troy oz.

John Samuel Hunt (1785–1865) was one of the leading English silversmiths of the 19th century and the principal silversmith for Paul Storr’s firm before establishing Hunt & Roskell in 1843. Renowned as the successors to Storr & Mortimer, Hunt & Roskell became one of the most prestigious silversmithing firms of the Victorian era, producing exceptional silver services and presentation pieces for royalty and the aristocracy.
