Staffordshire flow black or flow mulberry pottery, particularly featuring a complex strawberry pattern, is a substantial and highly collectible set. Mulberry ware (often described as flow black or reddish-brown transferware) was primarily produced in the Staffordshire district of England between roughly 1840 and 1860. The Strawberry pattern in Staffordshire pottery refers to several distinct styles ranging from mid-19th-century "Mulberry" transferware to more modern 20th-century collections. Fox was on the hunt for this particular pattern, as evident in correspondence from 1974 and 1979. Fox purchased several pieces from a New Jersey antiques dealer, who also seemed to be a close friend.
