Giovanni Francesco (Taurianova, 1651 - Naples, 1725) was an Italian traveler, one of the first Europeans to have completed a journey around the world by his own means. He was the inspiration behind Jules Verne's "Around the World in Eighty Days". This book includes illustrations of people in indigenous dress, flora and fauna species, mines, calendars, and the writing system of the Aztecs.
