Exclusive on Bidsquare Lot #06: Jennifer Angus
Insects, mixed media, glass, and wood
30 x 11 x 11 in.
Jennifer Angus creates some of her most provocative work in art museum settings. For her site-specific installations, she draws on her background in design as she mounts insects on walls in patterns reminiscent of textiles and wallpaper. Her whimsical, surreal kingdoms within bell jars feature dried beetles and cicadas mimicking humans performing on stages and in circuslike settings. The insects used in this tableau are farm harvested; there are no endangered species.
A professor in Design Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Angus received her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Spain. Recent domestic exhibitions at the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC and the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh have garnered significant attention in Art Daily
, The New York Times
, Architectural Digest
, and many others.
