Exclusive on Bidsquare Lot #05: Nina Ghanbarzadeh
Composition, no. 20,
Acrylic on frosted Mylar
36 x 36 in.
Nina Ghanbarzadeh finds compelling expression in the abstraction of color, lines, curves, dots, and even language, which she considers the symbolic building blocks that define culture. She emigrated from Tehran in 2001, and describes herself as living between two cultures-a dichotomy that has made her keenly aware of both the limitations of language as well as the inherent power and universality of abstract marks and patterns. Repetitive mark-making is a meditative process for Ghanbarzadeh. In her works, she invites the viewer to similarly meditate upon the marks as a bridge to shared human experience.
Ghanbarzadeh's method of painting on frosted Mylar set between two sheets of Plexiglas creates an inner luminosity that heightens the visual intensity of the colors and the clarity of her marks.
