· Born in 1956, in Dygowo, Poland, Walentynowicz came to Denmark in 1960, when his parents decided to seek a better life, and escape the then, communist Poland.
· Growing up in a small fishing community, with parents who both enjoyed doing pastel drawings when time allowed, he eventually was very much inspired by his elementary school art teacher and now lifelong friend, which led to a career as a young autodidact artist, exhibiting sculptural work in stoneware.
· In 1978, he attended The School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen where he became acquainted with the glass media. Working in Finn Lynggaard’s studio in Ebeltoft, Denmark 1980-82, he met Prof. Joel Myers, who invited Janusz to study under him in the glass department at ISU (Illinois State University) where he eventually stayed for 10 years, also as main gaffer for Prof. Myers, 1984-1991. During my time at ISU, I eventually abandoned the discipline of blowing glass, and sought back to my early roots in sculpture where my interest had been focused on human relations and addressing various topics, rather than producing objects of purely decorative nature.
· “For me; art -among many other things, is about curiosity, exploration, risk-taking and the dare to challenge both oneself and also the viewer, presenting him / her not only with what they like, expect or want although, I see no crime in, occasionally, doing so. As an international person, I speak several languages. Why, when it comes to art, should I stick to speaking only one?”
