US Civil War era Side drum. They were worn on a sling to the player’s side, hence the name. This side drum bears a stenciled eagle design that was typical of the thousands of instruments produced for use by the Union army during the Civil War. The eagle is painted on a blue field and has a banner in it's beak that bears the words "REG: U.S. INFANTRY." No regimental number is painted into eagles banner, So it is unclear who used this one or if it was issued at all.
