- Lot Description
A small framed portrait drawing after François Clouet, depicting a finely dressed Renaissance gentleman wearing a plumed, jewel-accented hat, ruffled collar, and trimmed beard. Executed in pencil and light wash on toned paper, the portrait reflects the refined courtly style associated with 16th-century French portraiture, with delicate facial modeling and careful attention to costume details. An indistinct handwritten inscription appears along the upper margin. The work is mounted in a gray mat and presented in a wood frame. Condition shows age-related toning, fading, light surface wear, and some visible discoloration to the paper; the frame backing has tears, losses, and wear with old hanging hardware. An appealing decorative work on paper for collectors of Renaissance Revival portraiture, French court-style imagery, or works after Old Master portrait traditions.
