- Lot Description
A finely cast bronze sculpture depicting Diana the Huntress, shown in an elegant classical pose with one foot resting on a barrel and a stag draped at her side, symbolizing her role as goddess of the hunt. The figure is richly detailed, with careful attention to anatomy, flowing drapery, and expressive features, and is finished with a warm, nuanced patina. She wears a crested helmet and is captured mid-stride, conveying both grace and movement. The sculpture is mounted on a polished black marble base, providing a striking visual contrast and solid foundation. An incised signature is visible along the base, appearing to read “Mêne,” in reference to or after the renowned 19th-century French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne, celebrated for his animalier works. Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this piece reflects the enduring appeal of neoclassical and French academic sculpture. Minor surface wear and light scuffing to the marble base are consistent with age, but overall the piece remains in very good condition and presents beautifully.
