- Lot Description
Elegant carved marble bust of a young woman, executed in fine Italian Carrara marble and mounted on an integral socle base. The figure is depicted in classical style with softly modeled facial features, downcast gaze, and draped garment over one shoulder, wearing a decorative patterned headscarf or cap. The sculpture is carved in warm-toned translucent marble typical of Carrara stone, showing natural veining throughout. A handwritten label affixed to the underside reads "Il Galatino - Made in Italy of Carrara Marble - I bought it in N.Y. City about 1900 - Ida M. Pickwood," suggesting early provenance and Italian origin. A refined decorative sculpture well suited for display in classical or neoclassical interiors. Approx. dimensions (in): 16.75 x 10 x 5.25.
