- Lot Description
Decorative carved bamboo brush pot or vase featuring a finely incised scene of bamboo stalks with a small bird perched among the leaves. The cylindrical vessel is carved from a single section of bamboo with a warm honey-brown patina and natural grain visible throughout, while the carved design is highlighted in a lighter tone that contrasts attractively with the darker surface. The interior retains its natural bamboo form and the base shows the characteristic node opening typical of hand-worked bamboo pieces. Likely Japanese or Chinese in inspiration, this type of vessel was traditionally used as a scholar's brush pot but also displays well as a decorative vase. Shows age, natural shrinkage cracks, and surface wear consistent with age and use. A pleasing example of traditional bamboo carving with organic texture and elegant form. Approx. dimensions (in): 11.75 x 4.75 x 4.75.
