- Lot Description
A large and decorative Persian Sarouk/Mahal carpet, early 20th century, measuring approximately 13'3" x 10'1". The rug features a richly saturated brick-red field adorned with an intricate allover floral design centered around a subtle medallion, complemented by deep navy and ivory accents. The composition is framed by a classic multi-tiered border of scrolling vines and palmettes, lending balance and elegance to the piece. Hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, the carpet displays a supple handle and clear pattern definition on the reverse. Condition shows even age-related wear with areas of pile reduction, yet retains strong color and visual impact, making it a versatile and appealing example of traditional Persian weaving suited for both classic and contemporary interiors.
