- Lot Description
A striking antique folk art triptych altar painting on wood, featuring a central devotional figure within a hinged shrine-style case with arched crest, painted doors, and distressed polychrome surface. The piece retains layers of weathered green, orange, white, blue, and dark pigments over a rustic wooden construction, with extensive age wear, paint loss, oxidation, surface abrasions, and patina throughout that add to its primitive character. The central painted saint or religious figure is heavily worn but remains visually evocative, framed by opening side panels and simple applied wood rails with old nail construction. The reverse shows unfinished aged wood with a wire hanger, suggesting later display use. A compelling example of Continental or Mexican folk devotional art, ideal for collectors of religious antiques, retablos, santos, primitive painted wood, and rustic altar pieces. Condition is antique and distressed, with losses, flaking, cracks, wear, and old repairs consistent with age and use. Approx. dimensions (in): 15.25 x 9 x 1.25.
