A framed French Renaissance-style portrait depicting Marguerite of Navarre, also known as Marguerite d’Angoulême, Queen of Navarre, shown in three-quarter view wearing a hooded headdress and holding a small dog. The composition is after a 16th-century court portrait drawing associated with the French Renaissance tradition of the Clouet circle, with an inscription identifying the sitter at the upper right. Presented under glass with a green mat and giltwood frame, the work has a refined antiquarian appearance, with delicate graphite-like linework and subtle pale hand-coloring. The reverse bears a “Bolzani, Milano” framer’s label. Condition appears consistent with age and display, including paper toning, scattered spotting, light surface wear, and frame abrasions. Approx. frame size (in): 14.25 x 11.75 x 0.75, Approx. etching size (in): 6.75 x 4.5.
