- Lot Description
Expressive charcoal portrait study depicting a man in three-quarter view, rendered with confident, gestural line work and subtle shading on toned paper. The composition captures the sitter’s features with a modernist sensitivity, emphasizing structure and form through bold contours and sketch-like modeling. Signed and dated “1936” at the lower right (artist’s name indistinct), and bearing a gallery label from Peretto, Torino on the verso, suggesting Italian origin. Presented under glass in a later wood frame with matting. The work shows light age toning and minor surface marks consistent with age, but remains a compelling example of early 20th-century academic or atelier-style figure study. Approx. frame size (in): 21.5 x 15.25 x 1, Approx. drawing size (in): 16.75 x 10.5.
