A striking George Jones majolica sardine box with matching undertray, showcasing the vivid color and naturalistic detail characteristic of late 19th-century English majolica. The rectangular form is finished in a bright turquoise glaze with a molded yellow rope-twist border, and is decorated in relief with aquatic and foliate motifs, including a detailed fish and various leaves. The domed lid features a sculptural shell-form finial and is similarly adorned with richly colored foliage in red, green, and brown tones. The interior retains a period paper label reading “Sardines,” and shows expected glaze pooling, crazing, and staining from age and use. The undertray complements the box with matching coloration and form. Unmarked, but consistent with George Jones production of the period. A vibrant and highly collectible example of Victorian majolica, ideal for display or addition to a fine ceramics collection. Approx. dimensions (in): 4.25 x 7.75 x 7.
