Antique Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by Toyohara Kunichika (1835–1900), likely titled Actor Sawamura Tanosuke as the Courtesan Yūgiri and dating to 1863. The print depicts the celebrated kabuki actor Sawamura Tanosuke III in the female role of the courtesan Yūgiri, shown with elaborate blue floral hair ornaments and richly patterned robes against a deep blue ground. The left side includes Japanese title and actor cartouches, along with artist and publisher seals. Presented under matting in a black frame, with an older handwritten attribution and date on the backing, though the backing date appears to differ from the likely published date. Condition shows age-appropriate toning, fading, creasing, mat wear, and possible trimming or mounting, as shown. A striking Edo-period kabuki actor portrait with strong decorative presence and collectible subject matter. Approx. frame size (in): 19.75 x 14.25 x 0.75, Approx. painting size (in): 13.75 x 9.
