A Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III, depicting an elegantly dressed bijin kneeling and holding a footed candy dish. The image is associated with “Poem #68” from the series A Pictorial Commentary on One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets (Hyakunin isshu eshō), inspired by the celebrated Hyakunin Isshu poetry anthology. The figure wears richly patterned robes with blue floral and vine decoration, set beneath an illustrated open-book cartouche containing poem text and a small portrait scene. The artist’s signature and seal appear at right, with publisher marks visible near the lower margin. Presented matted and framed in a black frame, with an older verso label identifying the artist as “Toyokuni III (1786–1864)” and describing the subject as “Bijin holding a candy dish.” Toning, light staining, age-related wear, and minor paper imperfections are visible, consistent with an antique woodblock print; not examined out of frame. Approx. frame size (in): 20.75 x 15.75 x 0.75, Approx. painting size (in): 14.25 x 10.
