- Lot Description
An original German World War I–era sawback bayonet, featuring a long, single-edged blade with pronounced spine serrations and a distinctive hooked quillon. The ricasso is clearly stamped “J.H. Becker Solingen,” with additional retailer marking “L.O. Dietrich Altenburg,” indicating a quality Solingen-produced piece. The bayonet retains its original wooden grip scales with rivets intact, showing honest service wear and age. The blade exhibits a bright finish with scattered oxidation and light pitting consistent with period use, while the sawback remains well-defined. Included is the original metal scabbard, displaying surface rust and patina but remaining structurally sound. A desirable and collectible example of a German Imperial sawback bayonet, prized for its historical significance and distinctive, aggressive design. Approx. length (in): 19.75.
