The distinctive interlaced double c-scroll splat is a design employed by John Goddard and used in the John Brown roundabout chair with cabriole legs (RIF433). Other related Goddard roundabout chairs with cabriole legs see Rhode Island Furniture Archive: RIF951, RIF1051, RIF1069, RIF1072, RIF4193, RIF4788. Those with straight Marlborough legs are scarcer. Two examples are noted in the Rhode Island Furniture Archive but neither have the interlaced c-scroll splats (see RIF1067 and RIF3328).
